Overcome Anorexia with Hypnosis in NJ

Anorexia Nervosa is a serious, potentially life-threatening eating disorder characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss. It’s important to talk with your health care provider about any concerns you may have about your eating prior to pursuing alternative forms of treatment.

Anyone suffering with anorexia will avoid foods that they believe to be fattening, regardless of whether or not this belief is in fact accurate. It’s relatively common for the sufferer to alternate between fasting and binging, although a binge is subjective and unique to the perception the sufferer has of the specific circumstance. For example, eating two or three muffins may make one sufferer feel as though they have eaten entirely too much however this may not be so for another.

These extremes of anorexic behavior are usually followed by feelings of shame and guilt, leading to lower self-esteem, and thus the cycle of self-destruction continues.

Warning signs:

  • Rapid weight loss.
  • Obsession with weight, food, calories, fat grams, and dieting.
  • Refusal to eat certain foods, progressing to restrictions against whole categories of food.
  • Frequently commenting about feeling “fat” despite weight loss.
  • Anxiety and stress about gaining weight.
  • Denying feelings of being hungry.
  • Development of food rituals, i.e. excessive chewing, rearranging food on a plate, etc.
  • Constant excuses to avoid mealtimes or being around food.
  • Excessive exercise regimen and the “need” to burn off calories.
  • Withdrawal from usual friends and activities.

Hypnosis has proven that it can help as a useful modality for Anorexia Nervosa treatment because it allows for communication with the subconscious in a powerful and direct manner. The good news is that this means that it’s possible to address the root cause of a problem and correct it.  Another reason why hypnosis can help people with Anorexia Nervosa is because they are usually quite suggestible despite thinking quite the opposite. Truth told, often times friends, family and the media play a significant role in the development of an eating disorder. That being said a large majority of the people with Anorexia Nervosa are typically good hypnotic subjects. This is an important thing to be considered when contemplating alternative treatment options.

*Hypnosis is not a substitute for seeing a medical professional however it is a complimentary process to the treatment received from a physician.

“Since our meeting, I have noticed a rather large improvement in my overall anxiety level. I feel very much calm and balanced. I no longer feel like there is impending doom around every corner…which is a huge improvement! “
